Closing the Gap
The Sprinters are taking a more active approach to planning for retirement, with nearly half contributing to their employer’s group savings plan and more than half following an overall retirement savings plan.
The Sprinters are generally optimistic about their own health, with 93% rating their overall physical condition as good, very good or excellent. As a result, most (53%) are not very or not at all concerned about the possibility of requiring long-term care expenses that are not covered by provincial healthcare plans.
Fewer than half (47%) are somewhat or very concerned that they will become seriously ill during their retirement years.
Rethink Insurance
The group insurance plan that protects many of them today may disappear when they retire. People who haven’t considered supplementary insurance, such as life, critical illness and longterm care policies, should realistically assess their future needs now, while they are still eligible for affordable coverage.
