Managing Money and Health
The Extended Lifers appear to be even more hale and hearty than their Second Lifer counterparts, with more than eight in 10 reporting themselves to be in good, very good or excellent health.
Rethink Planning
However, from a financial perspective, even 16 years into retirement, fewer than half of Canadians (45%) have prepared a plan that specifies how they will use their savings to generate retirement income.
That number is actually slightly lower (by 3 percentage points) than for the Second Lifer retirees. When they did have this type of plan, the largest number (45%) had prepared it themselves, without professional guidance.
Vital Statistics
- More than $50,000 in household income: 13%
- More than $50,000 in personal savings and investments: 35%
- Rate physical health good, very good or excellent: 83%
- Have a retirement spending plan: 45%
