Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)

Did you know that an RRSP is not a product per se? It's an investment vehicle registered with Revenue Canada. Different types of investments can be registered for RRSP purposes: investment funds, guaranteed investment certificates, segregated funds, and so on.

RRSPs offer number of advantages, especially from a tax standpoint. No wonder they're so popular! In 2005, over 6,1 million Canadians contributed to an RRSP, for a total of more than $30,6 billion, up 6,2% from 2004 (source: Statistics Canada).
