What Does a Travel Assistance Service Do?

When you purchase Travel Insurance, you generally benefit from an assistance service you can use during or even before a trip. The typical services usually offered are as follows*: 

  • 24-hour toll-free telephone assistance;
  • Help finding physicians or health care facilities;
  • Assistance with hospital admission;
  • Transportation of the insured who requires emergency care;
  • Repatriation of insureds to their city of residence, as soon as their health permits, and repatriation of their travelling companion, spouse or children;
  • Routine arrangements in the event of death;
  • Delivery of medical assistance and medication if the insured is too far from a health care facility;
  • When advised by the attending physician, the necessary arrangements for a family member to join the insured if not already accompanied by an adult (if confined to hospital for at least seven days);
  • Communication to the insured's close friends or family in the event of an emergency;
  • Help in replacing lost or stolen tickets, identification papers or official documents required to continue the trip;
  • Help in finding lost or stolen baggage;
  • Assistance with language barriers;
  • Information before departure about passports, visas and vaccinations required in the country of destination;
  • Assistance in the event of accidents or legal problems.
