Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death among children aged six to 12. Most injuries happen while the child is playing sports or games, and injuries due to falling or tripping are the second most frequent cause of death.
Boys hurt themselves more often and more seriously than girls. Studies on this subject indicate that this phenomenon is attributable to the fact that boys have a tendency to take more risks than girls, and to play more adventurous games, as well as to the innate differences between the sexes when it comes to levels of impulsiveness and activity.
