GetWell Insurance is affordable coverage that protects against the financial consequences of cancer.

On the first diagnosis of cancer, GetWell Insurance provides a tax-free lump-sum benefit of:

$25,000 for insureds aged 54 or under;
$12,500 for insureds aged 55 to 69.

Does this insurance cover all types of cancer?

GetWell Insurance covers all types of cancer, except for the following: carcinoma in situ, stage 1A malignant melanoma, any non-melanoma skin cancer, any cancer that has not metastasized and stage A (T1a or T1b) prostate cancer.

Who is eligible for this coverage?

Any Canadian resident aged 59 or under who meets the insurability conditions specified in the Insurability and Premium Rate Selection Questionnaire.

How is the premium calculated?

The initial premium is calculated based on your age, sex and smoker/non-smoker status. Afterwards, the insurer reviews the premium at each contract anniversary.

I already have group insurance coverage. Why would I need this coverage?

Most group insurance plans only cover a portion of your income. With GetWell Insurance, you'll receive a lump-sum benefit of $25,000 or $12,500 to help you offset your lost earnings and deal with the financial consequences

of cancer.

What's the definition of "smoker"?

A smoker is described as someone who has used or smoked tobacco in any form (cigarette, cigar, cigarillo, pipe, marijuana, patch, nicotine gum, or any medication to help stop smoking) during the last 12 months.

When does this coverage take effect?

GetWell Insurance takes effect on the date the contract holder applies for coverage.

How often do I need to pay premiums?

The premium is payable every month.

How much do I receive when cancer is diagnosed for the first time?

Insureds aged 54 or under will receive a benefit in the amount of $25,000 and those aged 55 to 69 will

receive $12,500.

Can I receive the benefit while I'm alive?

Yes. Since GetWell Insurance isn't life insurance and the benefit is paid when cancer is diagnosed for the first time, the insureds can use the benefit during their lifetime, as long as the insurer is advised upon diagnosis.

What happens if I die while my contract is still in force?

If an insured dies before age 70, the insurer refunds all premiums paid since the effective date of the coverage.

How do I submit a claim?

For more information, contact the insurer at 1-877-747-5005, during regular business hours. The insurer will be pleased to send you the information and documents you need to submit a claim.

Who can submit a claim?

The claim may be submitted by the contract holder or, in the event of their death, by their designated beneficiary, or in the case of this person's death, the legal heirs of the contract holder.

When does a claim need to be submitted?

Claims must be submitted to the insurer within 30 days of the date of a diagnosis that may give rise to the payment of a benefit.

The premium is reviewed each year. A new premium may apply if an insured has entered a new age bracket. Download the premium table

It's simple and easy to buy GetWell Insurance for anyone from birth to age 59.

Plus, if the insured dies while the contract is in force, all premiums paid will be refunded. Coverage ends when the insured turns 70.

Eligibility

It couldn't be easier! You're eligible for GetWell Insurance if you're a Canadian resident and you answer "No" to each of the following questions:

During your lifetime, have you ever suffered from cancer, a malignant tumour or a colon polyp?
Have you ever undergone chemotherapy or radiation therapy?
Have you had a positive HIV or AIDS screening test, are you waiting for results or has it been recommended that you undergo this type of test?
Males: did two or more members of your immediate family (father, mother, brothers, sisters) suffer from colon cancer before age 60?

Females: did two or more members of your immediate family (father, mother, brothers, sisters) suffer from colon cancer or breast or ovarian cancer before age 60?

Exclusions and restrictions

The insurer will not pay a benefit for a diagnosis of any type of cancer or the onset of any signs or symptoms, a medical consultation or tests confirming a diagnosis of any type of cancer within the 6-month period prior to the effective date of an insured's coverage or within the 3-month period following this date. The insurer will not pay a benefit for any of the following cancers: carcinoma in situ, stage 1A malignant melanoma, any non-melanoma skin cancer, any cancer that has not metastasized and stage A (T1a or T1b) prostate cancer.
