Fraud Management

Desjardins Financial Security is a member of the Canadian Health Care Anti-fraud Association (CHCAA) and takes fraud very seriously. The funds placed in our trust must be used to protect our clients' financial security at the best possible price. Defrauding group insurance plans causes the cost of plans to rise and jeopardizes the coverages employers offer their employees.

Negative impact on plan costs

Fraud causes financial losses for plans. Sooner or later these losses result in higher premiums, and may even eventually lead employers to revise their employees group insurance plan and reduce the coverage that they offer.

To reduce our group insurance plans' exposure to financial risks, Desjardins Financial Security has put in place certain measures in an effort to prevent and detect fraud.

Fraud occurs when a dishonest individual submits falsified or incorrect information for financial gain. In group insurance, fraud can be committed by health care professionals, service providers or plan members.

Help us prevent fraud

You can help us reduce fraud, control its impact on group insurance plans and protect your insurance coverages. Here's how:

    1. Be careful when you give out information about your insurance contract or sign documents.
    2. Never give a signed blank form to a health care professional or service provider. Fraudulent claims could be submitted in your name.
    3. Beware of service providers who collect higher fees when their clients have insurance plans.
    4. If you have reason to believe that a health care professional or a co-worker is abusing your group insurance plan, don't hesitate to report it. Any information you provide will be treated confidentially and anonymously.
